PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Pneumaticgrindersareportablehandheldtoolspowered
by compressed air. The motor drives a rotating spindle
on which a grinding wheel or other abrasive device is
mounted.Whenapplicable,thegrinderisequippedwith
a guard.
Failure to observe all safety warnings could result in
equipment damage or personnel injury.
INTENDED USE:
A pneumatic grinder is to be used only for removing
materialbyutilizingappropriateabrasivewheels,rotary
les or other material removal cutting devices. The
grinder must not be modied in any manner unless
approved in writing byApex Tool Group, LLC orApex
Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG. All safety devices must
be properly installed and maintained in good working
order.
Any abuse or misuse of the cutting device can be
extremelydangerous.
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:
These Safety Instructions must be accessible to the
operator at alltimes.They must beshownand made
available to all personnel involved in the operation of this
equipment.
The operator must read and understand the
Safety Instructions contained in this document
before operating this equipment.
These Safety Instructions are not intended to be all
inclusive. The operator should also read and understand
the Product Manual for the specic tool. Study and
comply with all applicable Federal, State and Local
Regulations.
Do not remove any labels from this equipment. Replace
any label that has been damaged and can not be easily
read.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION:
Only qualied and trained personnel should install,
adjust or use this equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work areamust beclean, uncluttered, thoroughly
ventilatedandwellilluminated.
Make sure the work environment is free of
any ammable or combustible elements that
sparks from the grinding process could ignite.
SPEED CHECK:
Checkthetoolspeedbeforemountingawheel,afterany
repairs,wheneverthetoolisissuedforuseorevery24
hours.TheRPMofthegrindermustbecheckedwitha
calibrated tachometer to make certain its actual speed
doesnotexceeditsratedspeed.
Carefullydetermineifthereisamaximumspeedmarked
on the cutting device. If so, this speed must be greater
thantheratedspeedofthetool.Failuretocomplywith
this instruction could result in serious injury or death.
GRINDING WHEEL INSPECTION:
Allgrindingwheelsshouldbecloselyinspectedbefore
installation and use. Consult the safety procedures of
thegrindingwheelmanufacturer.Includeblotterswhen
required.
PROPER ABRASIVE MOUNTING:
Therearemanytypesofcuttingwheelsincludingstraight,
cone, plug, cup, depressed center and mounted. Consult
and comply with the Safety Instructions of the cutting
wheel manufacturer. Insure the proper manufacturer
recommendedspindle,angesandguardsarepresent
on the tool.
Alwaysuseproperlymountedguards,asprescribedfor
the cutting device being used per ANSI/CAGI B186.1. If
the guard has been damaged, it must be discarded and
replaced.
Generally,rotarylesandsomeothercuttingdevicesdo
notrequirewheelguards.Conrmthiswiththecuttingtool
manufacturerandconformwiththeirrecommendations.
After mounting the cutting device and guard, the tool
should be started under a steel bench or similarly
protective area. Make sure safety glasses are worn.
Run at full speed for at least one minute to insure proper
operation.
GRINDING WITHOUT A GUARD:
Operators may use the grinder without a
guardonlyif they followtheserequirements.
Improper use of agrinder without a guard,
includingfailuretofollowtheserequirements,
could result in seriour injury or death.
Type 1 Wheel: Do not use a wheel larger than 2”
(50mm) in diameter or more than 1/2” (13mm) thick.
Neverexceedaperipheralspeedof1800surfacefeet
per minute (548.64m/min).
Type 1 Reinforced Wheel:Donotuseawheellarger
than3”(76mm)indiameterormorethan1/4”(6.4mm)
thick.Neverexceedaperipheralspeedof9500surface
feetperminute(2895.6m/min).
Grinding Wheels:Usedforinternalwork,whilewithin
theworkbeingground.
Mounted Wheels:Donotuseamountedwheelwitha
diametergreaterthan2”(50mm).
Other Cutting Devices: Do not use small cones, plugs,
threaded hole pot balls, or other similar devices that
exceed 3” (75mm) in diameter and 5” (125mm) long
withoutaguardunlesstheworkprovidesprotection.
CUT-OFF WHEELS (Type 1 and Type 27):
Securetheworkpiecetoprovideacleancutandreduce
the possibility of binding.
Ifthe cut-offwheel becomesjammed, turn thegrinder
offandfreethewheel.Makesurethewheelissecurely
attached and not damaged before continuing the
operation.
Never use a cut-off wheel to perform a side grinding
operation.

AIR SUPPLY:
Inspecttheairhoseandttingsthoroughly.Donotuse
damaged, frayed or deteriorated hoses. A hose rupture
can cause serious injury.
Connect the tool to an airline with clean dry air and a
maximumpressureof90psig(6.2bar).
Neverconnect aquickdisconnectttingattheairinlet
ofgrinderswithawheeldiameteroffourinches(10cm)
or greater.
Adjust the airline lubrication to a minimum to reduce
possible contamination of the environment by the
exhaustair.
Always disconnect the tool from the air supply before
performing any adjustments, repairs or installation of an
abrasive device.
Immediately shut off the tool in the case of unusual
sound or vibration.
Turn off the air supply, bleed the air pressure and
disconnectthetoolfromtheairhose.Haveaqualied
person check the tool and repair before placing back
into service.
Ifrepairsarenecessary,useonlyApexToolGroup,LLC
orApex Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG manufactured
replacement parts.
PRODUCT OPERATION:
Safety glasses or a face shield must be worn when
operating these tools. Wear gloves that do not restrict
proper operation of the tool, ear protection and
other protective equipment, as required by the work
environment and grinding application.
Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry or rings and keep
longhairawayfromtool.Avoiddirectskincontactwith
lubricants, grease or adhesives.
Make certain all personnel in the immediate area of the
grinding operation are equipped with the appropriate
personal protective equipment before operating the
tool.
Keep the tool clean and dry to provide the best possible
grip.The tool should be held in such a wayto assure
safe and comfortable operation. Keep your body stance
balanced and do not overreach while operating this
equipment.
Power tools can vibrate during use. Vibration and
repetitive motions may be harmful. Stop using this
equipment immediately if you experience discomfort,
a tingling sensation or pain and seek medical advice
before resuming operation.
Theprimarysource ofvibrationwhen usingaportable
grinderisanabrasivewheelthatisoutofbalance,outof
round, untrue, or possibly a combination of all three. The
use of quality abrasive wheels that are well balanced,
round and true is highly recommended to signicantly
reduce tool vibration.
Avoidexcessivepressureorsuddenimpactofthecutting
deviceontheworkpiece.
Donotlaythetooldownuntilthecuttingdevicehascome
to a complete stop. Make certain the tool has stopped
before moving to a different location.
Never carry or drag the tool by grasping the air supply
line.
SAFETY MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST:

program to provide regular inspection for all phases of
tooloperationandairsupplyequipment.Replaceworn
or damaged parts using only genuine brand replacement

Daily:
Visual inspection of air supply hose and •
connections.
Inspectallexternaltoolcomponents•
Inspect the cutting device for cracks or damage•
Make sure the cutting device is securely mounted.•
Checkthetoolforexcessivevibrationornoise.•
Weekly:
Inspect the air supply hose for damage.•
Make sure the air inlet adapter is securely •
tightened.
Make sure all tool fasteners are properly tightened.•
Inspectthewheelguard(ifequipped)fordamage.•
6 Months or sooner if needed:
Check individual parts and replace as necessary•
Replace all O-ring and seals•
Onlyqualied andtrained personnelshould repairthis
equipment. Refer to the Sales and Service Center listing
ontheback ofthisdocumentfor authorizedApexTool
Group, LLC or Apex Tool Group GmbH & Co. OHG
repair facilities.
